- 0Food and live animals
SITC Rev. 4 code 0 groups together food products and live animals destined for consumption or further processing. It includes items such as cereals, dairy, meat, fish, fruits, vegetables and live livestock, as well as related agricultural commodities. This category captures the primary edible goods traded internationally.
- 1Beverages and tobacco
The SITC Rev 4 code 1 groups together all beverages-both alcoholic drinks such as wine, beer, and spirits and non-alcoholic drinks like coffee, tea, and soft drinks-together with tobacco products, including cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco and chewing tobacco. This category covers items primarily consumed for their liquid or smoked/chewed form rather than as food.
- 2Crude materials, inedible, except fuels
SITC Rev 4 code 2 covers raw, unprocessed natural materials that are not edible and not used as fuels, including minerals, ores, timber, and other primary commodities harvested from the earth or forest. These items are traded in their crude state before any manufacturing or processing.
- 3Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials
The SITC Rev 4 code 3 groups together mineral fuels such as coal, crude petroleum, natural gas and other solid, liquid and gaseous energy sources, along with lubricating oils, greases and related petroleum-derived materials used for heating, power generation, transport and industrial processes.
- 4Animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes
Code 4 covers all animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes, whether crude, refined or processed, including products such as butter, lard, fish oil, vegetable oils, greases and solid waxes, as well as their derivatives used for food, industrial or commercial purposes. It excludes essential oils used chiefly for fragrance or medicinal purposes, which are classified elsewhere.
- 5Chemicals and related products, n.e.s.
SITC Revision 4 code 5 includes chemicals and related products not listed elsewhere, covering a broad range of inorganic and organic substances such as basic chemicals, pharmaceuticals, fertilizers, pigments and other chemical preparations that do not fall into more specific SITC categories.
- 6Manufactured goods classified chiefly by material
SITC Revision 4 code 6 groups manufactured products whose primary classification is based on the material from which they are made, such as textiles, metal articles, wood and other basic substances. This category organises goods by their constituent material rather than by use or function.
- 7Machinery and transport equipment
Code 7 groups all machinery and transport equipment, including industrial machines, electrical and electronic devices, and parts used in manufacturing, construction and other sectors, as well as vehicles, aircraft, ships, rail equipment and their accessories, but excludes agricultural implements.
- 8Miscellaneous manufactured articles
Miscellaneous manufactured articles - a residual group in the SITC Rev 4 that captures finished goods not classified elsewhere, including assorted industrial parts, consumer items and other assorted manufactured products.
- 9Commodities and transactions not classified elsewhere
Code 9 in the SITC Revision 4 serves as a residual category for goods and trade activities that cannot be placed in any of the other defined sections. It is used to record miscellaneous commodities and unconventional transactions, ensuring that all trade is captured even when no specific heading applies.
