0 Food and live animals

SITC Rev 4 code 00 refers to all live animals that are not classified in division 03, which covers animals kept for food or agricultural use. This category includes livestock not raised for meat, dairy or eggs, as well as pets, zoo and exotic species, and other live animals held for breeding, research, or display.

The SITC Rev 4 code 01 covers all kinds of meat and meat preparations, including fresh, chilled, frozen and dried flesh of mammals, birds and other animals, as well as salted, smoked, cooked or otherwise processed meat products such as sausages, canned meat and meat extracts. It excludes meat off-cuts used primarily for animal feed and non-edible by-products.

Code 02 covers dairy products such as milk, butter, cheese, cream and yoghurt, as well as bird eggs and related products including egg yolk, egg whites and prepared egg dishes.

Code 03 covers all fish and other aquatic animals harvested for human consumption, including fresh, chilled, frozen, dried or salted fish, crustaceans such as crabs, lobsters and prawns, molluscs like squids, octopuses, mussels, clams and oysters, and other edible marine invertebrates. It excludes processed products such as fish meal or fish oils.

Category 04 covers cereals such as wheat, rice, maize, barley, oats and other grains, as well as products derived from them including flour, starch, breakfast cereals and other processed cereal foods.

The SITC Revision 4 entry 05 covers all varieties of vegetables and fruit, whether fresh, dried, frozen, canned, or processed for consumption. It includes raw and prepared plant products such as nuts, seeds, and edible shoots, but excludes beverages, oils, and derived products that are classified elsewhere.

The SITC Rev 4 code 06 groups all forms of sugar and related products, including raw and refined cane and beet sugar, sugar-based preparations such as glucose, fructose and syrups, confectionery items containing added sugar, and natural honey, used for international trade statistics and economic analysis.

SITC Rev 4 code 07 groups coffee, tea and cocoa in both raw and processed forms, together with a wide range of spices and their derived products such as extracts, powders, blends and other food preparations made from these items. The category also includes manufactured goods that combine these commodities, for example flavored mixes, ready-to-brew tablets and confectionery bases. It captures all goods primarily derived from these plant-based stimulants and seasoning crops.

Code 08 includes animal feed products except unmilled cereals, covering processed grains, hay, silage, oil-seed meals and other manufactured feedstuffs used for livestock, poultry and other domestic animals.
