National Standard of the People's Republic of China - Industrial Classification for National Economic Activities (GB/T 4754-2017)

Category A encompasses the primary-sector activities of cultivating crops, managing forests, raising livestock, and conducting aquaculture, including all related production, processing, and support services that contribute to the nation's agricultural, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery output.

Code B in GB/T 4754-2017 designates the Mining and Quarrying sector, which comprises the extraction of mineral resources such as coal, metal ores, non-metallic minerals and stone, as well as related activities like exploration, excavation, and primary processing of the raw material.

C denotes the manufacturing sector, covering the transformation of raw materials into finished goods through physical, chemical or mechanical processes. It includes sub-categories such as food production, textiles, machinery, electronics and other industrial activities that convert inputs into marketable products.

Code D covers the generation, transmission, distribution and retail of electricity; the production, heat-supply networks and district-heating services; the extraction, processing, pipeline transport and distribution of natural gas and other gaseous fuels; and the drawing, treatment, supply and sewage services of urban and rural water.

Code E in the GB/T 4754-2017 classification denotes the construction sector, covering activities that create, install, repair or demolish buildings, civil engineering works, infrastructure projects and related engineering services, including residential, commercial and industrial structures, as well as specialized construction trades such as plumbing and electrical installations.

Code F classifies establishments engaged in the purchase, storage, and distribution of goods to other enterprises or directly to end-users, covering both wholesale activities that supply merchandise to retailers, processors, or institutional buyers and retail activities that sell products to consumers through stores, kiosks, e-commerce platforms, or other direct-sale outlets.

Code G groups enterprises engaged in the movement of people and goods, the warehousing of commodities, and the provision of postal services. It covers land, water and air transport operations, freight forwarding, logistics and storage facilities, as well as mail handling, delivery and related support activities.

Code H covers enterprises that offer short-term lodging and related hospitality services, such as hotels, guesthouses, and campsites, as well as establishments preparing and serving meals and drinks to the public, including restaurants, cafes, bars, and catering providers.

Code I groups together enterprises engaged in the transmission of information and data, such as telecommunications, internet and broadcasting services, together with activities that develop, produce, maintain and support software and other information technology solutions. It also includes IT consulting, system integration, data processing and related technology services.

J includes all economic activities that mediate the flow of funds between savers and borrowers, such as banking, securities, insurance, finance leasing, credit unions, and other financial services that provide payment, settlement, risk-management and asset-management functions for individuals and enterprises.

The K category covers all real-estate activities, including the development, sale, purchase, lease and rental of land and buildings, as well as property-management services such as maintenance, brokerage, and related consulting for residential, commercial and industrial premises. It encompasses enterprises that acquire, improve, and dispose of real-estate assets for profit or long-term investment.

Code L in the GB/T 4754-2017 classification groups enterprises that provide leasing of equipment, vehicles and other assets as well as a range of business support services such as consulting, market research, human-resource and management assistance, and other professional services that facilitate commercial operations.

Code M covers establishments that carry out scientific research, technological development and associated technical services. It includes basic and applied research institutes, engineering and design firms, testing and inspection agencies, as well as consulting bodies that provide expertise, analysis and solutions across a wide range of industrial and scientific fields.

The N category of GB/T 4754-2017 covers activities related to planning, construction, operation and maintenance of water-conservancy projects, environmental protection infrastructure and public facilities. It includes flood control, irrigation, water supply, wastewater treatment, solid-waste management and the upkeep of parks, roads and other communal services.

Code O includes activities that provide services directly to households, such as domestic cleaning, laundry, home-based personal care, repair and maintenance of consumer goods and appliances, and other miscellaneous residential services not classified elsewhere.

The P category groups all establishments that deliver formal education and related support services, ranging from preschools and primary-secondary schools to colleges, universities and specialized training institutes. It also includes institutions providing educational administration, curriculum development, tutoring, language instruction and other learning-oriented activities.

Code Q groups establishments providing medical, preventive, and rehabilitation services such as hospitals, clinics, and public health agencies, as well as institutions offering social assistance, elderly care, and community support. It includes activities that promote health, treat illnesses, and deliver social welfare programs for vulnerable populations.

Code R in GB/T 4754-2017 covers enterprises and institutions that produce cultural, artistic and creative works, organize and host sports events, and provide entertainment services such as performance venues, museums, libraries, broadcasting, film production, gaming and leisure activities, including fitness clubs, amusement parks and related supporting services. This classification groups together activities that create, present, or facilitate cultural and recreational experiences for the public.

S includes the activities of government bodies, public institutions and agencies that perform administrative, regulatory and policy-making functions, as well as entities that deliver social security, welfare and public-service programs; it also covers non-governmental social organizations, NGOs and charitable groups that operate for the public interest.

The classification T covers activities of bodies that operate beyond national borders, including UN agencies, regional bodies and other multilateral institutions that coordinate economic, social, cultural or technical cooperation among member states. Entities in this category provide policy guidance, funding, research and program implementation for international development and cooperation.
